May 2007 Kingdom Chatelaine Newsletter:
Greetings Chatelaines, Castellans, & Hospitallers,
Welcome to the New AEthelmearc Chatelaine’s webpage! At the close of this first quarter, there is much to report here in the Kingdom Chatelaine’s Office. I’m so happy to be able to establish (with much help and gratitude to Fru Ellisif of Endless Hills and Lord Eirik Haarfager Goransson) the first major communication tool available to the all chatelaine officers throughout our fair Kingdom. I hope you enjoy and utilize the features we’ve been able to offer thus far. We will continue to build on this site and hope that you will check back at least monthly to see what might be new!~
While I have not been extremely active in attending events over the winter, I did manage to get to Kingdom 12th Night and Spring Coronation. It was pleasant to meet a few new faces among you! Many offices transferred hands this cold season. If you are new to your position as chatelaine, please report your status to your regional officer or myself. I’m in the process of updating the Kingdom Roster and would like to know who all of my hardworking local officers are. You might also want to check out the “Organizing your Office” section of this site for tips to get started.
I’m still looking for Regional Deputies for Region # 2 and #5. If you are interested, or know of an individual who may excel in this position, please contact me at rowan@micro-link.net.
At my request, Deputy Ellisif, graciously agreed to attend an Officer’s Symposium in Las Vegas in April, where she interacted with other chatelaines, seneschals, and exchequeurs representing many Kingdoms in our Society. She’s returned with news, ideas, and a broader perspective that I hope to incorporate into our plans over the next few years.
I have two goals I wish to accomplish while in office. The first is to establish a strong organizational and communication structure among those of us holding the Chatelaine Office and our respective deputies. The second, is to offer effective training and tools to those at regional and local levels. Having said this though, I realize that I can not accomplish these goals without your help and input. It is vital that communication begin flowing in both directions up and down the SCA pipeline. An article will soon appear here (written by Deputy Ellisif ) that helps explain the need for responsible reporting in both directions...and why all these reports are needed. I’ll let her provide the details. However, I do ask that you take a look in the “Office Downloads” section of this site to locate the “Chatelaine Survey”. It would be most helpful if you would take a few minutes to answer the questions and return them to your regional deputy or myself.
Myself and Fru Ellisif will be offering a class on “Cyber-Chatelaining” at War Practice and Pennsic. We hope to address both the basics for those not entirely comfortable yet with internet exchanges as well as specific information on building websites for those among us with more experience or expertise. I do hope you’ll be able to join us!
